Subnetting for AV Networks | HRE Answers — Part 2

HRE ANSWERS • AV NETWORKING

Continue HRE’s VLANs & Subnetting series with Part 2: Subnets. Use this video alongside your network documentation when preparing an installation or live-event system.

Connect the addressing plan to the system plan

VLAN segmentation and IP addressing are related parts of network design. Routing connects separate IP networks; the network plan should identify which systems need that connectivity. Keep addressing information with the switch and VLAN documentation.

Before your next deployment

  • List every networked device and its control role.
  • Record each device’s IP address, subnet mask and gateway where applicable.
  • Identify which addresses are static and which are assigned automatically.
  • Check for duplicate addresses and confirm communication from the actual control stations before deployment.

This checklist is supplemental HRE planning guidance, not a transcript of the video.
