VLANs for AV Networks | HRE Answers — Part 1

HRE ANSWERS • AV NETWORKING

Watch Part 1 of HRE’s VLANs & Subnetting series, then use the planning checklist below to organize your next AV network.

What is a VLAN?

A virtual LAN separates a switched network into logical broadcast domains. Devices can share physical switching hardware while belonging to different VLANs. Communication between VLANs requires routing.

Before your next deployment

  • Document which devices need to communicate before assigning switch ports.
  • Name each network group by its purpose so the show crew can understand the plan.
  • Record switch ports, VLAN assignments and uplinks in the system documentation.
  • Test device discovery and control across the intended network paths before show day.

This checklist is supplemental HRE planning guidance, not a transcript of the video.
